A little window into something.

It has been really hot in the LA area?? And here I was looking forward to fall/winter clothes...

04.30.13 { on the desk }

I posted these a couple weeks ago, but here's another peek. Slowly getting finished up.

It's already the end of the month! Time is seriously going fast.

Simple things.

I guess it was about time for me to really appreciate simply being able to draw. I've become so accustomed to being able to draw what I had in mind whenever I wanted, it was very unsettling and frustrating to be unable to for a (relatively) long period of time. It's like when you're sick and relearn to appreciate being healthy.
So now, I've been happily drawing and painting – both digitally and by hand.

Sneak peek and a slight detour

Here's a little sneak peek of what I'm working on:

I also did these quick, random images so I could play around on Photoshop and Illustrator:

I quickly made the pattern, but when I looked at it, I kept thinking the shape kind of reminded me of something...

I figured it out, it reminds me of the Chao from Sonic.

... Okay so maybe you have to squint a little to see them, but that's what came to my mind.

It was kind of nice to make an image simply for the sake of playing around and 'loosening up.' Sometimes I think I get a little too tense and feel like everything should be serious business and have a point. Photoshop and Illustrator make for nice little diversions.

Hope you have a good weekend  :]

Crime and Punishment

Happy 2012! It is now Year of the Dragon.

I've been trying to keep myself busy and make this year an even better one than last year. My website went on a diet and now I think it looks sleeker and more streamlined than before! Take a look for yourself :] www.rachelfujii.com

While I was sorting through my work, I realized I never posted about this book cover I made a while ago.
I never had to read Crime and Punishment while I was in school, so I picked it up
out of curiosity and read it myself. The story is essentially about a man who murders two people with an axe, then begins a descent into madness. I thought the story picked up around the middle and I had a hard time putting it down after that until the very end.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone's having a great Thanksgiving!

I've been kind of restless lately, hopping from project to project.

Since Black Friday is, well, tomorrow, I'm going to say... I have a weakness for accessories – rings, earrings, necklaces, and so on. It's terrible, and of course I magically find things I like at inopportune times. Here are some recent acquisitions:

Is anyone going to attempt to shop tomorrow? I'm amazed people were camping out at the beginning of this week to get deals...

Quick little portrait II

Here is yet another little portrait I did. I made myself use only colors I typically wouldn't think of using for skin tone, and I think it turned out well :]

3.5 x 5" Stonehenge paper.
Graphite, acrylic, digital.

And here is a sneak peek of references for an upcoming idea. What could all of these things mean? Hmm...

P.S. I just noticed that I typo'd the last portrait post. I know how to spell... yes...
