Princess Mononoke

I've been gone for a while. Most of 2015 and the beginning of 2016 has been a less than pleasant time.

Today, Princess Mononoke was released back in 1997. I didn't see this movie until quite a bit later, but I still count it as one of my favorite Ghibli films if not my favorite! The Forest Spirit's face strikes me as a little unsettling sometimes, but I'm fond of the imagery of plants growing and dying with its every step.

I actually managed to catch the livestream of this runway show on vogue.com and I would say that this quote is true – it was very quiet and contemplative, but it wasn't easy to look away.

I also love the black and white version of this illustration  :p

Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear: Marni

"Marni is a brand with a woman-friendly reputation for color and print, and this collection did have plenty of it. […] But it was with her giant leaf prints on graceful elongated tunics over fluid trousers that the collection really hit its stride. It was then that the anxious viewer stopped worrying about what it would feel like to manage all those semi-garments and began to appreciate the chic neo-moderne metal and dangly acetate earrings and chunky lacquer bracelets that are such a Marni draw." – via vogue.com

I really liked the simple statement of one line going down the middle of the models' lips and nails in this collection.

Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear: Monique Lhuillier

The makeup at Monique Lhuillier's show was refreshing to me with its graphic, rectangular eyeliner in bright blue or green! I also felt that it complemented the clothing very well (this was also my first go at hand lettering, it was fun).

Garland's goal was to inject a feeling of freshness into Lhuillier's made-for-the-red-carpet collection: "When you're younger, you tend to be a lot more brazen, so I was thinking, how do we portray youth in makeup?" she said. "It's bolder; it's brasher; you take risks—that's why I went for chunky, clunky, thick liner." – elle.com

The weather still feels like summer, but I'm looking forward to pulling out my scarves, coats, and boots again (not that the weather has entirely put me off the latter).
